This time yesterday, we were talking about the invitations Samsung had started sending out to its Unpacked event at the IFA, scheduled for late this month. The imagery Samsung chose to use could – if we looked at it just right – be seen as hinting at news about a new Galaxy Note model. Samsung could have just kept us guessing for another few weeks, but has gone ahead and have a spokesperson confirm the company’s plans, revealing the intention to unveil the Galaxy Note 2 at this August 29 event.
OK, that gives us something concrete to look forward to for the end of the month, but what about that other Samsung event? The company is also planning something for August 15, where it’s supposed to have news about a major new Galaxy model. If the Note 2 won’t be coming until later in the month, then what will the company share mid-month?
One theory has it that the Galaxy Note 10.1 could be the star of that earlier event. The timing there’s a little wonky, since the Note 10.1 will already be shipping in certain markets by the second week of August, but it’s not unthinkable. There’s also the chance that an 11.8-inch super-high-res Galaxy Tab might be on the agenda; such a tablet was revealed in court filings related to Samsung’s ongoing case with Apple. In our discussion from yesterday, commenter William Wc Lau put forth an interesting theory that the August 15 date might reference the Cortex-A15 cores in Samsung’s Exynos 5, which may be featured in the new Galaxy model. That’s got a nice sound to it, and we are itching to see those next-gen chips, so it’s one theory we’ll be keeping in mind as the date of the event approaches.
