Back in April, we heard a rumor that Acer was thining about following-up its Allegro Windows Phone 7 handset with a WP8 model featuring a QWERTY keyboard, supposedly going by the codename W11. While we haven’t heard anything new about those hardware details, Acer has now indeed confirmed plans to introduce a WP8 model.
When we were first talking about the W11, we heard that it would likely arrive with the first wave of Windows Phone 8 devices, sometime this fall. As it turns out, though, Acer will be taking its good, sweet time in bringing its first WP8 model to market, not delivering the model until the second half of 2013.
Waiting that long is either a big gamble on Acer’s part, forcing it to miss out on lot of potential sales, or a smart move that will allow it to study the market reaction to WP8 and plan the release of its own model accordingly. Acer is optimistic about its chances for success with WP8, citing its good relationship with Microsoft following years of PC sales.
