Verizon To Unlock Galaxy S III Bootloader Via OTA Update?

The developer community is hard at work to bypass the locked boot loader on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III — because of all U.S. SGSIII variants, the Big Red version is the only one locked down — but the carrier might have come to its senses, at least according to some alleged Customer Service replies.

Sure, there will be a Developer Edition which is targeting power users (and it’s even surfaced on Samsung’s official website), but the main phone shouldn’t be locked. The Customer Service reply implies that “there will be a solution soon coming. Samsung will be releasing a software update to unlock your device. Right now, we do not have a date for the release but it shall be soon”. Whether it will be in the distant future so that Developer Edition phones will actually start selling or it will be pushed out soon is yet unknown. Just hang in there and check on your favorite devs meanwhile.
