When Apple introduced the Smart Cover for the iPad 2 everyone thought it was revolutionary. Even though Apple wasn’t the one that invented the wheel, it was a simple solution turned into a useful, day-to-day helper. It turns out that Google’s first pure-Android Nexus tablet also features magnetic screen on/off functionality.
If you take a look at the video below you will see the Nexus 7 turning its screen on and off, depending on the proximity of a magnet. We can’t say this was a feature specifically advertised but its definitely a nice touch, as soon as case manufacturers will start shipping covers that employ magnets. We’re not sure whether the official Asus Nexus 7 covers will feature this but we are definitely looking forward to seeing alternatives.
