Amazon has entered the Android-powered tablet market with a product which quickly became very popular because of its attractive price-point, design and offering. With Google’s own Nexus 7 tablet now out, the world is expecting the Kindle Fire refresh to compete with the pure-Android tablet. But how about an Amazon smartphone?
Latest rumors are talking about a phone being prepared by the giant to compete with Apple’s iPhone and other Android-powered smartphones. Of course, nothing is certain at the moment as the bits are coming from “two people with knowledge of the matter”, cited by Bloomberg. According to them, Foxconn in China is already working with Amazon on the product while the giant is working on acquiring patents to defend it against future possible litigation.
As usual, there is no official word on the plans and Amazon declined to comment on the rumors. Still, if Amazon manages to enter the smartphone market with a low-priced attractive offering — similar to the Kindle Fire — the might be able to steal a slice of the market. Would you buy?
