The Sony Xperia Play ICS story is a sad one not only if you are one of the owners. Everyone was expecting the gaming phone to receive its Android 4.0 update alongside the other 2011 Xperia Models but later on the manufacturer dropped the bomb that there will indeed be no official ICS refresh for the PlayStation phone.
However, an Ice Cream Sandwich firmware popped up, certified, over at PTCRB. Does this mean that Sony changed its mind and will indeed push out the refresh? Possible, but unlikely, after such a vehement denial. However, one thing to note is that the firmware was probably close to a final version before Sony decided not to push it out. Back then, the wording was: “after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone“. Still, that firmware exists somewhere and it is PTCRB-certified.
