Custom ROM hacking on Windows Phone may not get the same level of attention as the vibrant ROM scene on Android, but take a moment to look for them, and you’ll find a similarly dedicated group of hackers trying to push the limits of what’s possible on Microsoft’s locked-down OS. Just like the Android ROM guys, these Windows Phone enthusiasts face plenty of obstacles in their way, not the least of which are secure bootloaders that prevent custom ROM flashing. Luckily for owners of the HTC Radar and Titan, custom HSPLs have just been released for the pair, opening up the door for flashing.
The Dark Forces Team delivers a set of HSPLs for these HTC models, along with wizards to help with the installation. Since we’re dealing with the SPL here, it pays to be careful and follow precise directions in order to avoid bricking your phone, but upon successful installation you’ll be ready to start flashing custom ROMs to the handsets.
Of course, a tool like this is only useful with the ROM images to go with it. Right on cue, the first custom ROMs for the Titan and Radar have dropped, giving users who install access to a fully-unlocked Windows Phone platform.
It’s probably not for the faint of heart (or those looking to keep their warranties valid), but if you’re up for it, full details, instructions, and downloads are available through the source link below.
