Owners of the Galaxy Nexus are all too familiar with the delays that plagued the release of the phone’s official accessories, moving back release estimates time and time again. Heck, we wouldn’t be surprised if all that teasing turned you off from picking up the phone’s accessories altogether. If, on the other hand, you’d still like to snag a couple, there’s now a new way to purchase this gear, with the accessories joining the Galaxy Nexus itself in the Google Play store.
The Nexus marked the arrival of real-world hardware, rather than virtual goods, for Google Play, while simultaneously seeing Google return to the world of direct smartphone sales. Rumors of how the next Nexus-series device (or devices) will arrive have been suggesting Google might keep up this increased role as a hardware merchant, and the fact that it’s already expanded to phone accessories could be seen as supporting that notion.
Granted, these aren’t the best deals in town on the GNex accessories, but Google’s prices are competitive when compared to going directly through Samsung, even if retailers like Amazon have both of them beat.
Maybe next time Google sells an Android through Google Play, its accessories will simultaneously be available, right from the start.
