Over the past several months, we’ve been hearing rumors about a new version of Motorola’s Droid RAZR destined for Verizon. First tipped as the Droid Fighter, this model would supposedly closely mirror some of the Chinese-only RAZR-like models we learned of last fall, with thirteen-megapixel cameras and 720p displays. While we’ve seen references to this so-called RAZR HD in EXIF data, there’s been very little in the way of evidence confirming the handset’s coming arrival. Today we get a bit more information along those lines, with the RAZR HD showing-up in the latest data set from Cellebrite.
There have been a couple guesses at just what the RAZR HD’s model number would be, and Cellebrite now reveals it to be the XT926. That fits right in with some of those Chinese models like the XT928.
Beyond the move to a 720p screen and the 13-megapixel camera, there’s also expected to be a slight bump to screen size, going up to 4.6 inches, and we may be looking at a new processor; some benchmark data has suggested that Motorola may take the unusual step of going with a Qualcomm S4 SoC for the RAZR HD, instead of the TI chip in the RAZR. We’re not yet sure what Motorola’s thinking about the RAZR HD’s battery, and if we’ll be looking at something more like the RAZR or the RAZR Maxx. Ultimately, we could end with both options again, though we haven’t seen evidence in either direction.
