Sprint Confirms HTC EVO 4G LTE Launch Rumors
When Sprint and HTC first announced the EVO 4G LTE back near the beginning of April, we learned the phone’s launch price, as well as when pre-orders for the handset would open, but that one crucial detail was still missing: when the smartphone would actually arrive. We’ve seen some attempts at guesses for just when that might be, but so far have been lacking any official confirmation. Well, it seems that those rumors were right on the money, as Sprint has now confirmed the EVO 4G LTE’s arrival for May 18.
Although some early rumors looked to a release in the first or second week of June, there’s been talk since mid-last-month that the Android would arrive on May 18, just a little over a week after pre-orders opened. Once customers started placing those pre-orders, we heard that they were receiving follow-up emails indicating a ship date of May 15, making that May 18 rumor seem all the more plausible. Sure enough, Sprint’s now made it official.
The $200-on-contract EVO 4G LTE takes the basic hardware from HTC’s One XL and makes a few tweaks, adding a kickstand, a somewhat larger battery, and a physical shutter button to the phone’s design. Sprint’s LTE service is still not quite ready to go, with plans for a mid-year launch.
