Sony Xperia Ion AT&T Release Date Teased In Google Ad
This past January’s CES afforded us an opportunity to get a hands-on look at Sony’s Xperia Ion, sporting a 4.6-inch 720p display and a 12-megapixel camera. At the time, official word was that the Ion would see a retail launch on AT&T in the States sometime during the second quarter of the year. Just a little later in the month, though, a leaked AT&T roadmap suggested that the Ion might arrive a bit earlier still, coming to the carrier during Q1, instead. That obviously hasn’t come to pass, so are we back to a Q2 date, or might the phone be postponed until later in the year; after all, a lot can change in four months’ time. We still don’t have a precise date, but a new Google ad may have just outed when the Ion is set to land.
Searches for the Xperia Ion are returning what appears to be a Sony-sponsored ad directing users to its own website. That ad’s copy includes the note that the phone will be “coming exclusively to AT&T in June”.
June fits with those earlier assessments of a Q2 launch, though pushing the release back as far as it can go. We wish this ad addressed the phone’s arrival with a little more specificity, but at least we know now not to hold our breath for the hope of the Ion coming to AT&T before the end of May. Hopefully, the remaining details on the Xperia’s launch should come to light over the next several weeks.
