Sprint Galaxy Nexus Cellular Data Fix Now Ready

Last week, we heard that new owners of the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint were running into some unusual problems with data services, finding themselves unable to acquire a cellular data connection with their handsets. Luckily for them, Sprint quickly acknowledged the problem, and posted that a software update to resolve the issue would be forthcoming. While the carrier didn’t commit to a precise release schedule, it did note that the update would likely be available early this week. Sure enough, Sprint has now posted support documents for the update, which it says will be going out to all of its Galaxy Nexus users within the next two days.

Fixing that crippling data bug is the crux of Galaxy Nexus update FD02. Beyond that, though, there are a couple other smaller tweaks being packaged-in: the phone now receives the correct time from Verizon’s network, and there’s an update for Google Wallet included.

Obviously, since we’re dealing with phones experiencing severe cellular data problems, Sprint tells users that they’ll need to connect their phones to a WiFi network in order to ensure they’ll get the update promptly. We haven’t yet heard any first-hand accounts from users who were having problems with their phones as to how well this update remedies the situation; we’ll hope for the best and knock on wood for now.
