Is Samsung Also Planning a Cloud Storage Announcement for May 3?

It may not end up called the Galaxy S III, and it may not be exactly the hardware we’re expecting, but Samsung definitely has something to unveil for us on May 3. Beyond whatever that device ends up being, Samsung may also have some new services to announce, and a rumor out today suggests that the company may use the event as an opportunity to launch its new S-Cloud cloud storage offering.

From the little we’ve heard so far, S-Cloud could offer Samsung users at least 5GB of free cloud-based storage. That number could end up slightly higher, or there may be options to purchase additional storage, but those details aren’t yet available. Reports claim that the service won’t be restricted to just documents and media, letting users upload any file types they choose.

Some extra storage is a nice touch, but we’re not sure this will be the attractive proposition Samsung could be hoping for. After all, cloud storage providers are rapidly becoming a dime a dozen, and when Android users everywhere get access to Google Drive in the near future, will another 5GB really matter that much? More importantly, from Samsung’s perspective, will that promise of another 5GB drive any sales?
