HTC Wants To Move Away From Physical QWERTY Keyboards
QWERTY keyboards are much easier to use than on-screen keyboards regardless of how good these SIPs have become over time — and their swiping alternatives. However, HTC thinks it’s time to move away from the slide-out keyboard-enabled concept.
Speaking at an event in Seattle HTC creative director Claude Zellweger said that while there’s still demand for physical QWERTY keyboards, they don’t allow HTC to move forward with its design principles, thus the company decided to move away from the sliders. “We feel that putting too much effort into that would take away from our devices”, he said regarding the hardware keyboards. This, combined with HTC’s refusal to consider large-battery-capacity phones — and go with a thin form-factor — represents what the company believes is the way to go. What do you think?
