At the ongoing WiMA NFC in Monaco (Global NFC Applications Products and Service Congress) Nokia announced an NFC-enabled variant of the recently launched (at MWC) Nokia Lumia 610. Orange will be the carrier of choice which will bring the Lumia 610 NFC to the market, early in the third quarter of 2012.

The NFC inside the new Lumia 610 will allow for seamless connection with NFC accessories; additionally, it will also be able to read NFC tags. NFC payments and ticketing solutions are also in; furthermore, the phone is “certified for contactless payments both with MasterCard for their PayPass solution, and with Visa’s mobile application for payments at the point of sale, Visa payWave.” Since Windows Phone doesn’t support NFC yet, all of this is possible via Nokia’s own software built on top of the platform.
