New iPad Jailbreak Still Many Weeks Away, Says pod2g

Owners of the new 2012 iPad barely had time to get their new tablets out of the box before we got news of the first jailbreak working on the model. We’ve seen some evidence from devs showing that such feats are within reach, but we haven’t had a public release just yet. Notable iOS guru pod2g took to Twitter earlier today to update anxious users on his own work towards such a goal, and why we might not be seeing any release in the immediate future.

The Chronic Dev Team has reportedly made some progress towards coming up with a userland jailbreak, but its work is incomplete. Just finding exploits is only one small part of preparing jailbreaks, and pod2g notes that even if they knew everything they needed to right at this moment, it would still be a matter of a few weeks before anything was ready to go for a public release.

For the time being, pod2g continues to poke away at iOS 5.1 on the new iPad, spending several hours a day trying to turn bugs into vulnerabilities. Clearly, the talent is here to find and exploit any holes Apple might have left behind, but we’ll just have to be patient for the moment.
