Huawei Ascend D Quad Reportedly Delayed

Huawei, not a manufacturer we normally associate with top-tier hardware, nevertheless had some impressive gear to announce at the Mobile World Congress, including the quad-core Ascend D. We had heard at the time that those phones were scheduled for release sometime in Q2, but apparently Huawei’s had to amend its plans, and now won’t be releasing the phone until July.

China’s CNMO reports that Huawei will not be starting full-scale production of the Ascend D Quad until at least June, so we wouldn’t see the first handsets hit retail until July at the earliest. Admittedly, that sounds like a more realistic target than a rushed Q2 release, but it’s unfortunate that Huawei could lose-out on an early advantage in the quad-core market.

According to Huawei, the Ascend D will be the fastest quad-core phone around, running the company’s own processor at 1.5GHz. We don’t know how true that might be, but the phone’s specs still sound solid. Look for a 4.5-inch 720p display, gigabyte of RAM, eight-megapixel main camera (1.3-megapixel front-facer), and Ice Cream Sandwich on board. There hasn’t been any word on a price yet, but knowing Huawei, we’re hoping it can keep things low.
