Leaked Slide Details Samsung Exynos 5 Specs
We’re still learning about the capabilities of Samsung’s Exynos 4 chips, as evidenced earlier today when we talked about the revelation that Samsung will be fabricating components with on-board LTE support. Even with many of those chips still in our future, Samsung’s planning its processor strategy even further down the line. A leaked slide out this afternoon gives us what may the deepest look yet into the Exynos 5.
Earlier this year, we heard a little about the Exynos 5250, including that it would feature dual ARM Cortex-A15 cores running at 2GHz. Today’s leak confirms this setup for Exynos 5 dual-core chips, as well as identifies the GPU as an ARM Mali T-604. That choice isn’t really surprising, given how Samsung went with the Mali-400 for Exynos 4 chips. The new GPU, besides its performance benefits, offers compatibility with new standards, including DirectX 11.
We can also see that these chips are planned to be manufactured with a 32-nanometer process, which Samsung has already started moving to for the end of its Exynos 4 run. Now we’re just left wondering when we’ll hear of the first Exynos 5-based devices; chances are we’ll see a tablet later this year.
