More Sources Claim Sprint Qualcomm S4 LTE WP8 Phone This Year
We’ve been talking a lot about chipsets today, with Samsung and its Exynos SoCs really taking the spotlight. That trend’s not about to stop for the moment, though our attention now turns to some other silicon, on the arrival of rumors concerning Sprint and its hopes for an LTE Windows Phone 8 handset.
Late last month, we took a look at a couple rumors concerning the dual-core Qualcomm S4 Snapdragon MSM8960 and its potential for inclusion in future Windows Phone hardware. While the primary claims were about Microsoft’s interest in the MSM8960 in general, we mentioned some rumors that tried to connect that chipset with both Sprint and Nokia. Today we’re back up that same alley, though Nokia’s role seems less certain.
SprintFeed reports that it can confirm that Sprint is planning to release a MSM8960-based Windows Phone 8 handset before the end of the year. As to who might be making it, there’s nothing in this new information that suggests Nokia, or even the odds of one manufacturer over another. Admitedly, we would have liked to hear the next rumor about this Sprint WP8 LTE phone add-in some new details, but considering how impressive the MSM8960 looks, we’ll settle for a bit more in the way of confirmation for it alone.
