Nokia Chief Designer: We Are Working On A Tablet
Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia’s head of design, recently confirmed that the Finnish manufacturer is indeed working on a tablet. The information comes hot on the heels of recent rumors according to which a Windows 8-based Nokia tablet running a dual-core Qualcomm processor could hit the market in the last quarter of the year.
“We are working on it”, Ahtisaari said in an interview with Finnish magazine Kauppalehti Optio. Stephen Elop stated several times that the tablet market is interesting for the company but, as with Windows Phone, Nokia has to differentiate itself from the others (and there are lots of tablets out there with the iPad as well as increasingly solid Android competitors). No other information was revealed but a company spokesman acknowledged that Nokia continues “to eye the tablet space with interest”.
Microsoft’s Windows 8 — and its respective Windows Phone 8 codenamed Apollo — is expected to bring full-fledged desktop OS to the tablets (and bits to the phone) while borrowing certain Metro aspect and design guidelines from its predecessor, Windows Phone 7.x. Nokia Lumia Pad anyone?
