You might know it as BBX, RIM’s QNX-based operating system, which was renamed to BlackBerry 10 after Basis International, an Albuquerque-based company, has claimed trademark ownership of the “BBX” moniker.

However, RIM has recently confirmed that PlayBook tablets will get an update to BlackBerry 10, which is currently running PlayBook OS 2.0 (also QNX-based). “We’ve said publicly a number of times that our first BB10 handset will be available towards the end of 2012, and that’s still firmly the case. At some point after the launch we’ll bring BB10 to our PlayBooks, yes”, said Rob Orr, Vice President of Product Management at Research in Motion.

While a future BlackBerry PlayBook refresh is currently uncertain, a BlackBerry 10 OS for the current tablet will further improve the experience; 50% of users installed the PlayBook 2.0 refresh the day it was released, according to reports.
