HTC Velocity (Raider/Vivid) Getting Ice Cream Sandwich Now

It’s certainly taken long enough, but as spring starts to loom on the horizon, we’re finally starting to see Ice Cream Sandwich updates arrive for existing Androids in decent numbers. Just today, Samsung hooked owners of its Galaxy S II up with the new software. Now it’s HTC’s turn, as we’re hearing that the Velocity is currently getting its ICS update in Australia.

The HTC Velocity may be better known to you as the Raider 4G or the HTC Vivid in the States. The manufacturer has talked in the past about its plans to bring Android 4.0 to the Vivid, as well as the Raider, and seeing it hit the Velocity first makes us hopeful that other markets will see their versions of the phone similarly updated in what could be the very near future.

One noteworthy discovery about the Velocity’s ICS update is that it does not appear to fully incorporate Sense 4.0 like we may have hoped. When HTC released updates for its Sensation-line earlier this month, we learned they would only see Sense 3.6, which is more of a 4.0-lite. It seems like this might be par for the course for more HTC updates in the future.
