Sony Still Open To Windows Phone, Still Cautious Though

The story of Microsoft, Windows Phone and Sony Ericsson (now Sony) looks to be like those “impossible love” dramas. The Japanese manufacturer is yet to announce a Windows Phone device even though we know there was at least one prototype (the Julie) which is up on eBay, by the way.

Initially, Sony Ericsson said they were open minded regarding Windows Phone. This was a little bit more than one year ago when the company also said that “we haven’t made any concrete announcement about when and how we would introduce Windows phone 7 into the portfolio”. This perception changed over time and Sony Ericsson strongly denied a collaboration with Microsoft and its mobile platform, at least until it was ready to take off.

This exact perception seems to govern the company, now called Sony Mobile Communications. According to Stephen Sneeden, the company’s Product Marketing Manager for the Xperia line, Sony is still open but has no plans at the moment because simply “no one really cares about Windows Phone”. Is Sony missing out on something here or is their brutal honesty part of the truth (or maybe they’re just waiting for Windows Phone 8)? Let us know in the comments below.
