nVidia Intrigued By Apple’s A5X Vs. Tegra 3 Comparison

According to Apple, the new A5X chip included in the New iPad — which is dual-core CPU with quad-core GPU — is four times faster than the new nVidia Tegra 3 quad-core SoC — which is really quad-plus-one core CPU and twelve-core GPU.

nVidia is not so happy with this comparison. Ken Brown, a company spokesman, said that while the comparison was “certainly flattering”, the claims are not that solid. “We don’t have the benchmark information. We have to understand what the application was that was used. Was it one or a variety of applications? What drivers were used? There are so many issues to get into with benchmark”.

In order to defend its business as well as its flagship product, nVidia is determined to grab a New iPad once it is available and conduct some benchmarks themselves. “At some point it will become more clear what the performance really is. For now, Apple has a really generic statement”, Brown said.
