Google Play Rebranding Breaks Blur

After telling you yesterday about the changes Google was implementing to the Android Market, renaming it as part of Google Play, we showed you how to force the update if you were feeling impatient. By now, distribution of the new code is in full-swing, and as more and more users update their phones we’re learning of some problems this change is causing, especially in cases where other software was designed to expect the presence of the Android Market.

Motorola users transitioning to Google Play may have noticed the the market link in Blur’s app drawer no longer works. If you want to get into the Google Play store, you’ll have to navigate over to it like any other app. Apparently the name-change threw Blur for a loop, and without any way to customize what it’s looking for, the market link should stay broken until Motorola gets around to releasing new versions of its UI.

It’s not clear just how many Motorola handsets this is affecting, nor which versions of Blur, but it’s definitely an issue for some users. Ultimately, it’s more an annoyance than anything, but considering the relationship between Motorola and Google, we would have hoped someone caught this in advance.
