New Lumia 800 Firmware Uncovered: Battery, Camera Changes
Nokia’s Lumia 800 is a fantastic phone, but it’s been plagued by a few small issue that detract from its awesomeness ever since it debuted. We’ve heard plenty of talk about Nokia’s work to fix the phone’s battery issues, having it properly report and maintain its charge. After coming out with an update to address the issue, Nokia pronounced it resolved, and turned its attention to audio and camera issues. Now there’s a new firmware that’s been uncovered for the 800, which suggests that not only are those camera changes about to arrive, but that there’s been additional work on the phone’s battery problems.
System software 1600.2487.8107.12070 has leaked, originally intended for Vodafone customers in New Zealand. Looking at the update reveals some text strings that seem to imply that new camera modes are on the way. The text mentions settings related to “Smart group shot”, “Panorama”, “Action”, and “Self Timer” modes.
We haven’t heard any reports from users who have tried flashing the ROM about those camera options, but there have been tales of greatly reduced battery consumption and changes to the phone’s battery diagnostic display. Hopefully, this will be the last tweak Nokia needs before resolving the issue once and for all.
