LG Optimus Elite Rumored for Sprint, Virgin Mobile
LG has been tipped to bring the NFC-capable Optimus Net stateside as the Optimus Elite on Sprint and, later, Virgin Mobile. Its model numbers, which we’ve already seen pass through the FCC and a few other certification bodies, are LS696 and VM696 for the Sprint and Virgin variants, respectively; the Optimus Net NFC goes by the model number P692 globally.
Besides NFC, we’re looking at pretty standard entry- to mid-level features: 800MHz CPU, 3.2-inch HVGA (320×480) display, 512MB RAM/4GB storage plus microSD, and five-megapixel main camera with flash. As you’d expect, Sprint’s Elite should hit first for not a whole lot, followed by Virgin’s — all by the end of May, allegedly. This is apparently the “Gelato” model we’ve been hearing about for nearly a year, by the way.
Elite will presumably replace the Optimus S, which is growing a little long in the tooth. We’re still waiting around for Gelato Q, which is basically Verizon’s QWERTY-equipped LG Enlighten going by model number LS700.
