Google’s Delicious Jelly Beans Have Us Thinking About Android 5.0

Once it became clear that Google was naming Android releases alphabetically after deserts, Android fans started making their own predictions about what Google might come up with further down the line. Some of them have been really tricky to guess, like Froyo and Ice Cream Sandwich, but there really aren’t that many strong possibilities for J. As such, Jelly Bean seemed as strong a candidate as any, and late last summer we heard that same name attributed by a “trusted source” to the next Android version. While we’re still not quite at the point where Google’s ready to give a strong confirmation, its choice of snacks at the Mobile World Congress certain ally seems to say, “We know it. You know it. We know you know it.”

If you happen to find your way into Google’s private meeting space at the MWC, you can grab yourself a handful of jelly beans from an jumbo-sized bowl. Google just has them sitting there, not drawing any particular attention to the candies, but it’s very hard to look at this as anything other than an intentional act; Google’s just too smart for it to be a coincidence.

We’ve heard rumors that Android 5.0 Jelly Bean could be revealed as soon as Q2 2012. There’s nothing to support that claim just yet, but for all we know, we could be seeing Jelly Bean confirmation before we know it.
