Apple iCloud and MobileMe Push E-Mail Suspended In Germany

At the beginning of February Motorola scored an important win against Apple in Germany. The German Mannheim Regional Court granted a permanent injunction against Apple’s iCloud push email service (as well as the predecessor, MobileMe) and any devices that can access it.

Now Apple has quietly published a support document acknowledging the situation: “Due to recent patent litigation by Motorola Mobility, iCloud and MobileMe users are currently unable to have iCloud and MobileMe email pushed to their iOS devices while located within the borders of Germany.”

Users of the service offerings in Germany will still be able to receive e-mail messages if the fire up the Mail application but the push system will be down. However, Apple posted instructions on how to configure the iPhone or the iPad in order to automatically download new mail in the background.

“Apple believes Motorola’s patent is invalid and is appealing the decision”. However, until a ruling and a verdict will be reached, push e-mail will be down in Germany.
