AT&T Samsung Rugby Smart Goes Official With March Release Date

Two days ago we brought you the first imagery of Samsung’s Rugby Smart, a ruggedized Android that had been tipped for AT&T. Based on earlier leaked roadmap info, the phone was supposedly planned for a release by February 18; with that date come and gone, we were left without a strong sens for just when the handset might now arrive. Samsung and AT&T have been kind enough to take care of that mystery for us, announcing the Rugby Smart coming to the carrier’s network on March 4.

We had a few details on the Rugby Smart’s hardware makeup earlier, but today’s announcement goes a long way towards filling-in the gaps. For instance, we now know that the smartphone will have a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen in a WVGA resolution, feature a five-megapixel main camera with 1.3-megapixel front-facer, and include 4GB of on-board flash storage.

There’s no mention of processor or RAM in today’s news, but we had already heard that the phone would likely have 512MB. As for the CPU, something in the single-core 800MHz-1GHz range sounds about right. With low-to-midrange specs comes a price to match, and AT&T will be offering the Rugby Smart for about $100 on-contract when it arrives in a little over a week.
