South African Carriers Hint a Q3 Galaxy S III Availability

The latest news regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III — after the manufacturer disappointed everyone by letting them know that there will be no Galaxy S II follow-up unveiling at MWC — came from Samsung Benelux which were inviting the press to a March 15 event.

However, South African carriers seem to have information according to which the highly anticipated phone will land on their networks early-Q3. MTN said it will replace the Galaxy Nexus, Cell C hopes to have the Galaxy S II refresh in stores by July 2012 and Virgin Mobile hope to carry the Galaxy S III sometime in the third quarter 2012.

If a Samsung is really planning on a March unveiling, an actual market availability three months after the event would kill the buzz. Of course this doesn’t mean that future worldwide owners will have to wait until Q3; it is possible that the international (unlocked) version will be available earlier and hitting South African carriers with a slight delay (just remember the American carrier versions of the Galaxy S II). On the same note, the Samsung Benelux invite might not refer to the Galaxy S III at all and Samsung is planning a summer event, closer to Q3.

There are many questions marks regarding the upcoming Samsung flagship; however, there is an undeniable buzz around the phone which would probably make Younghee Lee, Samsung’s marketing executive, happy about a close to Apple-like buzz.
