Qualcomm MSM8960 Blazes Through NenaMark2 Benchmarks
A leaked roadmap out of Qualcomm last summer gave us a preview of the company’s plans for upcoming system-on-a-chip processors. Among the many models featuring Qualcomm’s Krait design was the MSM8960, a dual-core component paired with an Adreno 225 GPU. This is the chip that should power, among other devices, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE variant we recently discussed. Just what kind of performance will it deliver to smartphones? We get an early look today, thanks to the benchmarks of an MSM8960-powered device showing up on NenaMark.
As a benchmark that focuses on graphics capabilities, NenaMark is really going to give us a look at how that Adreno 225 performs. Running NenaMark2, this MSM8960-based model gives a very impressive 54.90, blowing away nearly all of the competition. The feat is even more impressive when you consider that this appears to be tablet of some kind, running at a 1024×600 resolution; most handsets it scores comparably to sport WVGA, meaning the MSM8960 outperformed them even when pushing more pixels. Suffice it to say, we’re excited to see just what else this chip can do.
