Is Microsoft Preparing A New Music Service?

Zune is the preferred music service for those that have Windows Phones — even though Spotify is also present on the Redmond-platform — and it also brings tunes to the desktop computer, Xbox console as well as web-based streaming. However, according to recent reports, Microsoft is planning something in this department.

Microsoft is allegedly discussing the creation of a new music service with some of the major record companies. This new service would bring tunes to both Windows Phones as well as Xbox consoles, according to rumors. Microsoft already has the Zune Pass in place and it is not yet sure what Redmond is preparing. Because of Zune’s existence, deals with major record labels are already in place. However, reports indicate that Microsoft is trying to convince them to be part of a new service which will allegedly launch “sometime this year and include streaming music as well as downloads”.

With previous rumors of Microsoft preparing to yank the Zune app with Windows Phone 8 and go with a companion app instead, are we looking at early plans to include music service with Windows Phone 8?
