AT&T Gets Pantech Ruggedized QWERTY Slider This June

AT&T’s Jeff Bradley, Senior Vice President of Mobile Devices, talked about the carrier’s plans for smartphones earlier today, mentioning several upcoming releases we’ve already heard about, like the HP Veer next week and the Windows Phone 7 HTC HD7S. Bradley also re-confirmed AT&T’s commitment to allowing non-Android-Market app installs, like we’ve seen with the Infuse 4G. One tidbit that’s new to us, though, is his revelation that AT&T will have a new Pantech-made Android arriving next month.

Details are very sparse at this point; Bradley remarked that the Pantech is a “cool little device; it looks a little like a G-Shock… a little bit more outdoors, and it’s more durable than a classic side-slider.” It’ll be tough to make a ruggedized, Casio Commando-style robust smartphone with a slide-out keyboard that can still withstand the rigors of a harsh environment, so we’re real curious to see how the device will turn out.

No real details on the device’s capabilities are available just yet, but we’re sure that something will turn up as the phone’s early June release date nears.
