Yahoo Introduces Cross-App-Store Search Tool
Even after more than a decade of living under Google’s shadow, Yahoo continues to plod along, working on new search tools with which it hopes to win users over to its services. Its latest addition certainly has our attention, at least, introducing a search that offers both iOS and Android apps.
Like most any app store you’ve visited, Yahoo’s App Search breaks things down by category, as well as showing some leaderboards for the top-downloaded free, paid, and highly-rated apps.
When you find an app you’re interested in, you can install it by scanning a QR code, sending a link directly to your phone, or redirecting your connection to the app store that hosts it. As a result, Yahoo App Search should, in theory at least, offer you a broader range of titles than you could ever hope to find in just one store itself.
Screenshots abound, making App Search pleasant to just browse through. Ratings and reviews carry over from the parent app stores, and there’s a separate area for Yahoo users to provide their own feedback; obviously, there’s not much there just yet. You can check it out yourself at apps.search.yahoo.com.
