Is Samsung Preparing a Galaxy S II Plus?

Many were disappointed to find out that there will be no Galaxy S III at this year’s MWC in Barcelona but Samsung was kind enough to reassure us there will be “exciting new mobile products” at this month’s show.

A certain Galaxy S 2+ showed up in An3DBenchXL’s benchmark database, with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread on-board, WVGA display and a CPU clocking at 1.5GHz. The Galaxy S II has a 1.2GHz Exynos processor but the Samsung-made Google Galaxy Nexus on Sprint appears to have a 1.5GHz processor too.

It wouldn’t be the first time Samsung released a “plus” version of a popular smartphone. The initial version of the smartphone, the Galaxy S received a Galaxy S Plus refresh last year and more recently a Galaxy S Advance follow-up.

If the Galaxy S II Plus shows up at the end of the month in Barcelona, it will be interesting to see whether it will pack Samsung’s own Exynos 4212 processor or the TI OMAP 4470, rumored to power the Google Galaxy Nexus refresh. The results shown below seem to be much higher than the GT-i9100 (Galaxy S II) which scored around 37500.
