Sony ST25i Kumquat Finally Spotted On-Film?
The Sony Xperia S may be about to arrive well ahead of schedule, but as far as we know, the other models featured in the recently-revealed 2012 Sony roadmap are still on-course. One of the next handsets supposed to arrive is the Kumquat in April. Also known by its model number, ST25i, the Kumquat has appeared in some benchmark reports. While we’ve heard a bit about its specs, we’ve been curious to get a look at the phone. There were some suggestions that the Kumquat might have been among the models depicted in a recent photograph featuring many of the manufacturer’s phones, including some upcoming devices. Today, we might have our first opportunity to get a nice, clear look at the phone, at least according to one theory.
Part of the problem in identifying all these upcoming Sony models is how similar some of them appear. Xperia Blog first thought the image above was of the LT22i Nypon, also expected for April. Certainly, it looks enough like other images already attributed to being of the Nypon. Why might this be the Kumquat, then? The XB guys cleverly thought to look at the size of on-screen elements to get a sense of device resolution. In today’s image, the time and phone status icons in the upper-right appear just slightly larger than those in the image below, supposedly of the Nypon. Since the Nypon has a qHD display and the Kumquat should feature a FWVGA component, we’d expect this situation, thanks to smaller pixels on the Nypon’s screen. Admittedly, this analysis doesn’t approach proof, but it sounds like solid theory, at least until we get a chance to see the phones ourselves at the MWC next month.
