BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Tipped for February 17 Release
Earlier today, we told you about some of the topics RIM is planning to discuss at this year’s BlackBerry World in May. BlackBerry 10 may be the one that’s piquing our interest at the moment, but there will be plenty of other news to share. One of those topics mentioned would deal with the role of RIM’s PlayBook tablet in enterprise situations once it makes the upgrade to OS 2.0. When might the PlayBook be set to receive such an update? One rumor pegs the software’s arrival for February 17.
This specific date follows an early period of rumors that focused on that week in mid-February, but now a “very solid source” claims that RIM has committed to February 17.
As a QNX-based system, the PlayBook OS gives us our best guess so far at what RIM might be thinking for BlackBerry 10. We’re not sure just what features will make it over to smartphones, but one well-intriguing capability of the platform is a relatively painless way to re-package Android apps for local execution. Our next chance to see BlackBerry 10 should be coming up at the MWC near the end of February, so this OS update could serve as a nice preview a week or so early.
