Untethered iPhone 4S Jailbreak “Should Be a Matter of Days”
We’ve been keeping a close eye on the recent work of pod2g as he attempted to bring the iOS community some new jailbreak tools, supporting both the latest hardware and iOS revision. Tools for classic devices didn’t take too long to deliver, but coming up with something that would work on Apple’s new A5 chips, the ones at the heart of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, proved more difficult. There’s power in numbers, so pod2g recruited some of the biggest names from over the years in the iOS world for help. Today he’s posted an update of their progress, and it sounds like a release is nearly here.
The latest milestone to be reached is getting code execution to escape the iPhone’s sandbox restrictions. With unfettered access to the rest of the system, pod2g is optimistic that there are no more big challenges to overcome. He doesn’t want to make any promises about when we could expect to see the teams’s results, which we understand, given how trouble always has a way of popping-up unexpectedly at the last moment, but he’s posted that, assuming no more speed bumps, “now it should be a matter of days”.
