We’ve talked before about the lack of attention Google seems to give its Google Search Android app, not delivering big updates or new features with the frequency we see for some of its other apps. That said, with app updates it’s better late than never, and Google is finally giving Search the Ice Cream Sandwich makeover, speeding things up, and trying to offer better search suggestions.

The biggest change you should notice is the updated user interface, which Google hopes will lead to you using the app in a more straightforward, productive manner. Search suggestions see a couple improvements, like grouping together results of one particular type of search, including the introduction of search results based on your location for many countries around the world.

There are a few other small changes, like letting you remove old searches from your history with a long press. This release is available in the Android Market now, and supports phones running Froyo or later.
