HTC Adds New Device Support to Bootloader Unlocking

This past summer, HTC started making good on a promise to allow users of its smartphones to unlock the bootloader on their handsets, opening the door for some custom ROM modding. Things started off slowly, with just the Sensation available for unlocking to users in Europe. We’ve seen that list steadily grow since then, with HTC adding phones and expanding compatibility to models in other areas around the globe. Today it continues to expand that list, adding both a smartphone and a tablet to the mix.

We just learned last week that the HTC EVO View 4G on Sprint was getting a well-overdue upgrade to Android Honeycomb. Now, the tablet is also among HTC’s list of unlockable devices, joining international versions of the Flyer.

In addition to the EVO View 4G, owners of the myTouch 4G Slide for T-Mobile will also now have the option to unlock their handsets. As always, HTC makes it clear just what risks you’re undertaking by opening your phone up to modification, but that choice is thankfully now largely in the hands of end-users.
