On Monday, we told you about HTC’s latest efforts towards its promise to its users that it would be providing the means to unlock its products’ bootloaders for those interested in doing so. To the list of devices already supported, the manufacturer added the EVO View 4G on Sprint and T-Mobile’s myTouch 4G Slide. While those were the only obvious changes, apparently HTC has quietly started unlocking the bootloaders for a couple additional models.
Owners of the HTC Vivid and Rezound have been posting reports of their success attempting to unlock their phones through the use of HTC’s tool. Even though these models aren’t included on HTC’s official list, everything seems to be working just fine. It’s not yet clear if HTC intended to add support for these models at this time, and simply neglected to fully update its site, or if someone inadvertently allowed these unlocks prematurely. We also don’t know if there are additional Androids that have also secretly been bootloader unlock-enabled, so feel free to still give it a shot even if you have a different model.
Update: HTC has now made it official, posting this note to its unlock page:
“All HTC Android devices launched after September 2011 are unlockable. The website will be updated accordingly to reflect this in the coming weeks. We continue to work on models launched prior to September 2011, please check back often for the status of older devices.”
