LG Details Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade Plans

Now that smartphone manufacturers have had some time to look at the Ice Cream Sandwich source, we’re starting to hear some more detailed estimates of when certain handsets are likely to start receiving their updates to Android 4.0. Just last week, Sony Ericsson talked about its plans to get Ice Cream Sandwich out to its Xperia and Walkman models in early spring. Today it’s LG’s turn, and the company has taken to Facebook to post its current schedule for Android 4.0 deployment.

The first of LG’s phones to make the jump to ICS will get their updates sometime in the second quarter of next year. Handsets that will be part of this spring batch include the Optimus LTE, the new Pradra phone, the Optimus 2X, Optimus Sol, myTouch Q, and Eclipse.

Following that group, LG expects to release updates for the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus Big, Optimus Q2, and Optimus EX during Q3 2012.

What we don’t see in this list are notes on availability for carrier specific versions of that hardware, like the Thrill 4G on AT&T or the T-Mobile G2X. LG does mention that just when updates will show up for a given phone will depend not just on LG’s readiness, but on carrier and national issues. While it didn’t specifically confirm plans for hardware on any one carrier, we’d certainly expect Ice Cream Sandwich to hit these models as well, if not after a short delay.
