Microsoft Will Be Holding Last CES Keynote In 2012 (Update)

Frank X. Shaw, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Corporate Communications wrote on the Official Microsoft Blog “that this coming January will be our last keynote presentation and booth at CES”.

The explanation is rather simple: “our product news milestones generally don’t align with the show’s January timing”; Microsoft will still continue to participate at future CES — without the booth and keynote — as it is “a great place to connect with partners and customers”. Product news and announcements will be delivered via special events — like the New York Windows Phone Event — Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft.com and retail stores. Monday, January 9, will mark the last Microsoft CES keynote; did anyone else notice there is no Microsoft keynote scheduled for MWC either?

Update: According to recent reports, an anonymous Microsoft insider believes that “Microsoft didn’t pull out of the keynote — they were kicked out. Big difference”. The Consumer Electronics Association didn’t comment on the statement but the official PR says: “In the fourteen years that we have invited Microsoft to deliver a keynote address at CES, the company has unveiled some great innovations, from operating systems to gaming platforms to mobile technologies. Both CEA and Microsoft have agreed that the time has come to end this great run, and so Microsoft will not have a keynote at the 2013 CES“.
