Droid 4 Shows Up In Verizon Computers; How Soon Could It Arrive?
Seemingly out of left field, a smartphone purporting to be the Motorola Droid 4 came to our attention near the end of September, less than three months after the Droid 3 was released. We then got our first look at the handset as October wrapped-up, showing off some of the same angled design cues as featured on the upcoming Droid RAZR. While we hadn’t heard of any specific rumors concerning its release, the phone pictured looked relatively far-along in its development, raising questions as to whether Motorola would wait until next summer to release it, or launch the phone prematurely. Today, a new leak suggests that we very well might see the Droid 4 sooner rather than later, with the handset appearing in Verizon’s Device Manager.
Admittedly, the Droid 4’s new entries in Verizon’s computers don’t name any release dates, nor give us any new information on the phone itself, but they certainly suggest that we won’t be waiting until July for the phone to arrive. So far, the major releases in the Droid smartphone lineup have come about 9-11 months apart. While it might seem that Verizon is breaking from this schedule and preparing for a late-2011/early-2012 release for the Droid 4, we really have to wonder why. Verizon hardly has a shortage of new Androids arriving, and isn’t exactly hurting for QWERTY sliders, either. It could stand to pick up a very-high-end slider, like we’re assuming the Droid 4 will be, so perhaps that’s the motivation. If a release really is in the near future, we should be hearing more about the Droid 4 soon.
