Verizon Acknowledges Galaxy Nexus Reception Problem; Fix Coming

Over the weekend we told you a bit about a problem affecting new owners of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon LTE. For those experiencing the issue, both data and voice connections had some major stability problems, often dropping calls or losing connectivity. It didn’t appear like these problems were equally affecting all users, though it also wasn’t clear why some seemed immune. We’re still looking for plenty of answers, but for now Verizon has at least acknowledged that the issue is on its radar, and that a fix is currently in the works.

Verizon calls the problem a “signal strength issue”, and based on all the reports of dropped connections, we’d tend to agree with its assessment. For whatever reason, the Galaxy Nexus is having a tough time keeping a lock on Verizon’s towers.

The carrier took to Twitter to share its progress towards resolving things. It feels like we could still be a long way off from seeing the release of a fix, as Verizon notes the issue is still under investigation. Even at this stage, though, it’s confident that whatever’s causing this inconvenience is fixable in software, and we’ll eventually see a patch that sets things right.
