AT&T and T-Mobile Decide On Plan B: Joint-Venture
AT&T and Deutsche Telekom have recently withdrawn the merger application from the Commission. The acquisition needs approval from both FCC and DOJ and the two decided to withdraw the application from the Commission until (if) the DOJ gives its blessing.
According to recent reports, the two companies came up with a plan B, in case the merger fails to get proper approvals. AT&T and T-Mobile are considering a joint-venture, as worst case scenario, that would pool network assets from the two U.S. wireless carriers. While the initial plans and discussions aren’t final, a joint-venture could benefit everyone as well as get an easier approval. Of course it all depends on the verdict regarding the initial merger plan and, if that fails, it will eventually come down to the terms and conditions of the new joint-venture.
