UK LG Optimus 2X Owners Now Getting Gingerbread Update

We’ve been seeing what feels like a new push lately to get Gingerbread updates out to aging Android handsets. Maybe it’s starting to get to the point where manufacturers really feel the pressure to get those updates finished, lest their products become part of a rather undignified collection of smartphones that enter 2012 running two-year-old software. We just heard about the Motorola Milestone 2 getting ready to receive its Gingerbread update in Europe, and now LG’s announced that its Optimus 2X update is now available in the UK.

LG talked about its overdue Gingerbread update plans for a handful of its Androids right at the end of October. At the time, it said that distribution of Gingerbread for the Optimus 2X would start nearly straight away. Now, a month later, we can’t help but feel for those owners of the phone who have been dutifully checking for updates day after day, never to see any arrive.

Enjoy Gingerbread on the 2X while you can, because the smartphone’s now tipped for an Ice Cream Sandwich update, as well. We’re still waiting for details on just when we might hope to see that one arrive.
