RIM Preparing to Launch Mobile Fusion To Secure iPhone, Android

With a recent tendency of leaving the BlackBerry platform for Apple’s iPhone and Google Android-powered devices, Research in Motion unveiled its plans to launch its new Mobile Fusion device management software in the first quarter.

Fusion will allow for setting and monitoring rules for passwords, applications and software on staff devices, including Apple iPhones as well as Google Android-powered devices. “We will take full advantage of whatever security capabilities are provided by the core operating system. We’re not going to hold that back in any way, shape or form. <...> What our enterprise customers are looking for, and the opportunity for us, is to become the de facto platform”, said Alan Panezic, RIM’s vice-president for enterprise product management.

The Mobile Fusion offering will reside behind corporate firewalls but how much it will exactly cost is yet unknown.
