Panasonic Plans European, American Smartphone Market Presence
Initial Panasonic plans to enter the American smartphone market in early 2012 were waved away by company President Fumio Ohtsubo, who said back in June that the market is a tough one and “U.S. demand for smartphones is huge but the prices are cutthroat. I don’t think will come here”.
It looks like the company might have changed its mind; according to recent reports, Panasonic is planning on bringing its smartphones to North America and Asia. Also, the manufacturer is already reportedly in talks with one major European telecommunications firm, after leaving the EU market in 2005 due to fierce competition. Phones will be powered by Google’s Android platform and the target is to sell 7.5 million units abroad in fiscal 2015
